How Does Maternity Sharing Work?
Maternity Sharing Guidelines
ShareWELL provides financial support for maternity-related expenses through a single Unshared Amount (UA), ensuring all eligible prenatal, postnatal, and delivery costs are included in the maternity Sharing Request.
Eligible Maternity Expenses
-
Prenatal: Routine office visits, lab work, ultrasounds (2D/3D/4D), STD/STI screenings, fetal non-stress tests (after 36 weeks), and treatment for gestational diabetes.
-
Delivery: Hospital or home births, cesarean sections, multiple births, anesthesiology, and maternal-fetal medical specialist consultations (when ordered).
-
Postnatal: Breast pumps, lactation consultants, postpartum counseling, six-week postpartum check-ups (with pap tests), two-week cesarean post-op appointments, and pelvic floor services.
Cost Management
-
Members are encouraged to collect global prepayment packages from their providers to lower costs.
-
If total maternity-related expenses remain under $10,000, ShareWELL reduces the member's UA by $1,000 as an incentive for cost savings.
Exclusions
-
Pregnancies conceived within 30 days of membership start are ineligible for sharing.
-
Pregnancies existing before membership are not shareable. Misrepresentation of conception dates may lead to membership revocation.
Additional Notes
-
ShareWELL directly provides funds to members to pay providers once the UA is met.
-
Members presenting as self-pay for maternity services can contact ShareWELL for assistance and bill submission.
-
A $5,000 allowance is available for maternity services like doulas, midwives, and alternative care.
